With the festive season underway, families everywhere are in the midst of checking off items from their shopping lists. Although an exciting period for many of us, there are those who are unable to participate in this year’s festivities. Informal workers especially have seen their livelihood and income being impacted by the pandemic and continue to find themselves on the back foot. Committed to delivering smiles to them, e-commerce company Amazon India has launched a campaign that aims to positively impact them as well as their children’s well-being and education.

Reports from NGOs partnered with Amazon’s CSR programs indicate that less than 30% of students they work with have access to supporting devices. With online learning continuing, Amazon India’s newly launched Delivering Smiles campaign is aimed at mobilizing support through donations to provide access to virtual learning for these children. This can be achieved only through the collective efforts of all citizens.

Customers can easily buy and gift mobile phones, tablet computers, other low-cost devices as well as dongles, and other electronics needed for uninterrupted classes, in the sub Rs 10,000 range basis NGO wishlists on Amazon’s Gift a Smile page. Customers can also contribute monetarily through Amazon Pay towards devices by clicking on the “Donations” button.

The company is also directly donating over 5000 4G enabled tablet computers in partnership with 18 NGOs working with children in need, government and aided schools as well as childcare centres. Pratham Education Foundation, India Stem Foundation and Peepul are among the prominent NGOs that have come together to support this initiative.

Manish Tiwary, VP, Amazon.in, said, “We are always committed to making a difference in the communities around which we operate. Delivering Smiles takes us a step ahead and is an initiative that seeks to bring positive changes in the lives of our community members during this festive season through a small act of contribution. With their education being disrupted this year, we are committed to facilitating remote learning for these children and advancing their growth. Through our collective efforts, we strive to foster an environment that is conducive to learning and continue spreading smiles to many students. With reliance on you, we are kick-starting this program by donating 5000 4G enabled tablets to bring children from low-income communities online to learn in this digital era.”

One can also make donations through Amazon’s Gift a Smile page and contribute to 50+ NGOs that support a variety of causes from Healthcare and Nutrition, Senior Citizens, Empowerment of women and girls, Education, Care for differently abled, Disaster and pandemic Response and Skills and Livelihood. One can choose a cause and a preferred NGO, select items in the wishlist and check-out with the knowledge that the gifts will be safely delivered.
