An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was reported near Delhi on Thursday night, according to India’s National Center for Seismology. The epicentre of the earthquake was 48 km southwest (SW) of Gurgaon in Haryana, the agency said.
The earthquake struck at 11:46 pm at a depth of 7.5 km from the surface.
“The intensity of the quake was 4.2 on Richter Scale. The epicentre was Alwar, Rajasthan,” JL Gautam, Director (Operations), Seismology, India Meteorological Department , said.
According to reports on social media, tremors were also felt in adjoining Noida and Gurugram.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 3 had hit Jaipur.
